• Another clue is the type of pathology . If a person
has epidermoid carcinoma in lymph glands high in the
neck, for example, the primary site is most often in
the nasopharynx , the throat or the tonsils. Special
endoscopic procedures and biopsies can be used to
look for the primary site and even if it is not found,
such people are often treated for head and neck
cancer. Epidermoid cancer involving low cervical
nodes is usually of lung origin. Cervical lymph nodes
with metastases of other pathological appearance
may represent breast cancer, lymphoma, melanoma
or other tumors.
